NIIMBL may have an opportunity to apply for additional federal funding to support research, development, and testbeds to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus. As with our request to the membership in April 2020, we need to be ready to respond on a short timescale with project ideas from the community that can be implemented rapidly, and that will yield specific and tangible impacts and outcomes as it relates to coronavirus.
It is important to recognize that our country is in a different place today with respect to coronavirus, therefore we do not expect to fund projects that address issues that have largely been addressed, nor for which there are sizeable investments being made by the Government (e.g. NIH), or for which there are well-established commercial solutions on the market. On the other hand, we do think it is important to think about ways to prevent or to prepare for future coronavirus outbreaks.
Projects will be evaluated based on the outcomes that will be achieved in less than 12 months.
The concept submission deadline is Friday, April 9, 2021, at 5:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time.
