Industry Need

Traditional STEM curricula lack practical biomanufacturing experience, leaving graduates unprepared for industry jobs. This results in companies struggling to find qualified hires and often resorting to poaching employees from competitors.

Solution

The project will train 40 biomanufacturers for immediate jobs with NIIMBL partners through 16+ hours of online training and 80 hours of hands-on training at NCTM. Afterward, SME and NIIMBL industry partners will help place trainees in jobs.

Outputs/Deliverables

Completed training with 4 cohorts of 12 students each.

Established a pipeline of students with hands-on training in bioprocessing ready to be hired into regional biopharma companies.

Several graduates have received offers for employment with Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Merck.

Impacts

“Door-to-floor” will significantly reduce the time needed for new hires to add value to their biopharmaceuticals manufacturing job.

In addition to coursework, trainees will gain hands-on experience in current and emerging technologies through two weeks of training at the National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing.
