2017 National Meeting Recap
Thank you to those who attended our National Meeting in May and made our inaugural event a success.
More than 250 representatives turned out in Washington D.C. in May for the inaugural NIIMBL National Meeting. The two-day event brought together stakeholders from industry, academia, non—profit, state and local governments, and federal agencies to network and collaborate in anticipation of NIIMBL’s Quick Start Project call this summer.
In addition to networking opportunities, the first day of the event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers including Senator Chris Coons, Congressman Tom Reed, Acting NIST Director and Acting Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology Kent Rochford, FDA CDER Director Janet Woodcock, FDA CBER Director Peter Marks, and Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) CEO Jim Greenwood.
Speakers addressed the impact NIIMBL will have on biopharmaceutical manufacturing technology, public health and U.S. economic development.
Also, representatives from leading biomanufacturers lent their thoughts on challenges and opportunities facing the industry during plenary presentations and an engaging Industry Roundtable discussion.
The afternoon featured the SME Innovation Showcase, where small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) gave a rapid-fire two-minute pitch on their company’s technology and capabilities.
The members-only second day featured the first gatherings of the NIIMBL Governing Committee (GC) as well as Technical Activities Committee (TAC), Workforce Activities Committee (WAC), and Regulatory Coordinating Committee (RCC). Members tremendous insight and input into the direction each of these committees will take as they work to realize the NIIMBL mission.
